This year, the anointing of God will rest upon our lives every day. We will have encounters with God where we are changed and renewed. Walking in the Spirit is not something that we do when we want something from the Lord. It is a daily walk.

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18 (NKJV)

Walking in the Spirit is where we obey God and do His will. It is not doing what we want and making our own decisions. Many times, we have been making our own decisions and making our path. We forget the Holy Spirit and His guidance. There are times where we messed up because we failed to trust and rely upon the Holy Spirit. God wants the best for us. Everything He does is for our good.

The church is called to be different and peculiar. We are not of this world. We have dominion over sin (Romans 6:12-14). We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Walking in the Spirit gives us power over sin. This year, we must set our minds upon the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5-8). When we are governed by the Spirit, we experience life and peace.

What does it mean to “walk in the spirit”? To walk in the Spirit means to live in the Spirit (Romans 8:9, Galatians 5:25). It is not only to walk in the Spirit but to be filled with the Spirit. When we walk in the Spirit, we are led by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:12-14). This year, the church must be led by the Holy Spirit and not their own desires. We must not be afraid to be called weird or strange. When we walk in the Spirit, we are not focused on the opinions of others but on the opinion of God. We are led by the voice of God. There is so much that God wants to reveal to us. We just have to listen.

To walk in the Spirit means to pattern our lives according to the will of God. It is where we do not listen to ourselves but to God. There are times where God will tell us to do things that we are not comfortable with. Our flesh begins to rise up against the Spirit because we don’t want to move out of our comfort zone or look weird. There is a war between the flesh and the Spirit. However, the Spirit will always guide us on the right path.

We must let God dictate our paths and let His will be done in our lives. This year of 2017 must be different than last year. It must be a year where we are totally surrendered to God, where every distraction is removed. It must be a year where we walk and are baptized with fire in the Holy Spirit.

God wants to baptize us with the fire of the Holy Ghost (Luke 3:16). This is the season. This is the time. When we are baptized with fire, we begin to sacrifice and have an enthusiasm for the things of God. We have boldness and courage to go forth.
