Altars, Gates and Covenants (Pt.6) – Apostle Stephen Holford

Breaking Satanic Strongholds
It is important to break satanic strongholds over our lives (2 Corinthians 10:3-6). The only stronghold that should exist is the stronghold of God over our lives. The word stronghold means a fortified place in Greek. It is an area where you are weaker and where the activity becomes a habit or a trauma. It is a fortress.

These strongholds spring from incorrect thinking. It comes about as a result of patterns in our mind that think contrary to the Word of God. This goes on to dominate our lives and control our behaviour. They are built upon deceptions from the enemy that are accepted as truth.

In order to be free, we have to occupy our minds with the Word of God. We have to accept what God says about us and realize that it is true. We have to believe what God says and not the lies of the enemy. We have to know who we are in Jesus. What God says about us is true, lasting and will not pass away. Many times it is necessary to pray for people to break strongholds but after, one needs to live by the Word.

Strongholds come through:
– Ungodly altars
These are raised to a spirit whether done by you or another person.

– Open doors

– Wilful habitual sin
This is where a person constantly sins in a particular area and as a result a stronghold is formed. They are then controlled by this.

– Generational curses/lines
This may come from your parents.

– Transfer of spirits
This may come through sexual abuse or rape. As a result of this, people may become frigid, sexually promiscuous or homosexuals.

– Soul hurts
This is as a result of things that have happened to you in the past that you have not dealt with.

Examples of Strongholds
Fear
This hinders us from moving forward in God. God does not want us to live in fear, fear of man and fear of the devil. He has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Don’t allow fear to grip you. Focus on what God is doing in you rather than what you think the devil is doing to you.

Low Self-esteem
It causes you to think below what the Word says about you. It causes you to be afraid of people and afraid of sharing your opinion. It brings fear and insecurities.

Offence
If one does not deal with the offence within their heart, it would lead to unforgiveness then bitterness and furthermore hate and wrath. You then cripple yourself everyday resulting in sicknesses and diseases. There are some who are even offended at God because of situations in the past relating to the death of relatives or failure of marriages. You have to let go of offence.

Other examples of strongholds are failure, rejection, witchcraft, anger, pride, lust, unbelief, rebellion, lies, poverty, unnatural deaths, misfortune, intimidation, barrenness and jealousy.

The devil’s main strategy is to disguise his activity to make you think that it is the fault of someone else. The source of the problem is a stronghold of the enemy. You cannot be free until Jesus enters the strong man’s house (Mark 3:26-27). Jesus came to set the captives free and to bring liberty to all of us (Luke 4:18).

Today is the end of all the strongholds in our lives!
