Legacy is anything handed down from our ancestors or predecessors. We all have a responsibility to God to pass on a legacy. The word ‘virtuous’ means to conform to moral and ethical principles. When we are virtuous, we begin to operate in these principles. It means the life and character of God is formed in us so that we reflect who God is in the earth. God has fashioned and designed women with treasures that men were not given, that is why a man is not complete without a woman beside them. God has fashioned women with a lot of differences and we are suppose to celebrate these differences.
10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:10-12
If you are going to be virtuous, you need to reflect the character of Jesus which is the fruit of the Spirit. There is nothing that God wouldn’t withhold from you when you are virtuous. Your whole life should be centered around the reverential fear of God, compassion to those who are in need, faithfulness and love towards your family. Legacy demands three things from every woman. It demands faith, hope and charity. God demands us to have faith. Faith is believing in the character of God and the ability to perform His word. Love is expressing the reality of God’s goodness. It is God’s obligation to bless you for your labour of love. To be a virtuous mother, God is demanding hope. Hope meaning that there is a divine certainty that if you fulfil your part, God will fulfil His part.
Principles of the legacy of a virtuous woman
1) The legacy is that we leave a spiritual inheritance for our children.
If your children have moral guidance and spiritual values, they can become anything in this world because they will be positioning themselves to respond to the purposes of God. An example of this spiritual inheritance is seen in 2 Timothy 1:5 where Timothy’s grandmother and his mother left an inheritance. When you are leaving a spiritual inheritance, God will use you as a woman to leave lasting impressions on your children. A woman’s job is to bring out the reality that God exists. As a mother or a woman, your desire should be to reveal who God is.
In the story of the widow woman (1 Kings 17:8-16), the first request to her was simple but the second one required faith. It required her to believe in God and in His power. The widow woman didn’t have a bright future but she had a great heart for God. She was chosen. When we release our faith, God chooses us. Anytime God wants to take us out of something, fear will come but it will be conquered. When we stand on God’s word, everything will work out well. We need not to be afraid.
2) When you pass on a legacy, you provide a life education for your children.
Legacy is about passing on something that is real. You need to teach your children about finance, health and domestication. You teach them how to be good stewards and how to take care of their bodies. Being virtuous is seen as a great price in the eyes of God (1 Peter 3:1-4). As a woman, you have power and you can impact the lives of your husband and your children. As a woman, you bring credibility to your husband. You help him to maximize his potential and you speak to his destiny.
You are trained to manifest righteousness, holiness and the wisdom of God. Humility is not about a person but it is about God. Blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are the meek ( Matthew 5:3,5). When we are meek, things open us for us. God gives grace to the humble.
