The Heart of A Worshiper – Pastor Sandra Holford

February 16, 2014

Scripture Verse: Psalms 23:1-5

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it . . . who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.”

Coming to church, singing songs and feeling good without having a relationship with Christ, will not work. God is after the heart. He wants us to sing these songs with a clean heart. He has given us access to Him through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. We have to walk out our lives with Him, giving Him our hurts if we expect to worship in Spirit and in Truth.

Allow the Holy Spirit to search you today. Our hearts are deceitful and wicked. Ask the Holy Spirit to search you. God says He will not acknowledge the one who comes before Him, because his heart is not clean (Isaiah 1:15-17). We must ask the Holy Spirit to search us.

“Purify your hearts . . . humble yourself in the sight of The Lord and He shall lift you up.” James 4:8-10

In this time, God is calling us to deny ourselves of the things that we think that are so dear to us so that we can spend time with Him and thus deal with the issues of our heart. God’s glory helps us and that help comes when we spend time with Him.

Our hearts and hands should be occupied with the encouragement of others. Our brothers are not the persons with whom we fight, we fight with the enemy. We do not have to be jealous of others and their gifts. Spend time with God and you too will be lifted up. Do not let the enemy wreck our hearts to the point where we are always battling with issues.

Even in worship, there is warfare. We look at people and say that they are always at the altar but they are pushing through. Do not be distracted. The enemy sets us on a course against each other so that breakthroughs are not observed in the church.

There are persons waiting for healing and they cannot receive it because we are holding back the presence of God from flowing miraculously. Spend time with your God. Make a decision to set aside time to be spent with God. Let us invest in our souls and deal with our issues so that we become lovers of God and of each other, let us celebrate and lift up each other. Do not let your lips be lips that tear down. Do not let the enemy use you to tear down your brothers and sisters in the Lord. You set the atmosphere and you are a carrier of God’s glory.

Spend your time releasing positive things into the atmosphere. It is only because of Jesus that we are made worthy, so we need to take advantage of this and not allow the enemy to take advantage through our lives.

Invest in things that will last for eternity. Spend time with God to do so. Hebrews 4:16 tells us to draw near to God’s throne. You serve an awesome, powerful and loving God who died that you might live. God is calling for us to die and in dying, we too will live. God is calling for us to die to all our desires, our rights and to the satisfaction of the flesh. We must die daily, minute by minute as the enemy always comes to pull us back.

God loves when His children come and spend time with Him and sing to Him and rejoice with Him. God shares His heart with His children who spend time with Him. It is time to lay down the idols in your life, even if it is your job or sports; organize yourself so that you can spend time with God.
